Project Overview
I led the motion design strategy for Intuit's Control Tower—a page that re-imagines the Quickbooks Online (QBO) homepage as AI-powered intelligence hub. Control Tower reimagines the home-page as a proactive AI experience where users can see the state of their business.
Analyzing everything from load-in sequences to button animations and celebration moments, the goal was to utilize motion to not just make the platform easier to use, but more enjoyable for small business owners.
Challenge
After doing a full audit, I identified 3 major gaps with the existing platform motion could address.
Users...
1. Don’t know how to use QBO
2. Don’t trust the platform
3. Get little payoff for the work they do
In a platform that has very minimal motion design, I had to create new motion systems and rules to fit into an already established (and changing) brand system.
Process
The work focused on matching motion design to the intentionality of a page. Control Tower read like a daily brief, a new homepage and hub for small business owners to get an overview of what is happening with their business .The motion design needed to support this intention, one that is new to QBO's platform.
After working with multiple teams, including Omni, Intuit's AI team, to come up with meaning, messaging, and tone, I was able to create designs that were tested internally with designers.
The summer ended with the work being shipped in the Alpha Tests of the Control Tower.
Results
The final assets included a celebration animation. .
